nfmc - NeoFlux Media Center: the NeoFlux window manager with
television defaults
nfmc [--replace]
nfmc [--whats-new|--version|--help]
nfmc is the NeoFlux window manager built as a second binary
from the same code, under a profile for a TV driven from the couch. It is
neoflux(1) in every respect that page documents — the same
configuration files, key actions, menus and slits — with these
differences:
- Its own
configuration
- Files live in ~/.config/nfmc/ (not ~/.config/neoflux/), the
log in ~/.local/state/nfmc/nfmc.log, and the window manager
advertises itself as nfmc. The two can be installed side by side
and selected from the display manager's session menu.
- Fullscreen
keeps the panels
- The seeded config.toml sets fullscreen = "fill": a
player asking for fullscreen spans the free area, so the slits with the
launcher, clock and volume dock apps stay visible and clickable. The
movie action (default Super+Shift+f, or a remote button
bound to it) covers the whole screen for the film and drops back to fill
when pressed again.
- One window
- auto-group = "all": every new normal window becomes a tab
of the current one, so the title bar's tab strip is the taskbar and
next-window (Super+Tab) or next-tab switches. Dialogs stay
separate.
- One desktop, no pager,
big text
- [workspaces] count = 1, pager = false, [menu-style]
font 48 px, and the media-center theme (64 px title bars, 36 px
font) selected by default — sized for a 42-inch 1080p set at ten
feet, with room for kanji in window titles.
- Remote-friendly
keys
- The seeded keys.toml binds XF86HomePage, Menu and
XF86MenuKB to root-menu (arrows and Return then drive the
menu, Escape closes it), XF86Back to last-window, and
Super+s / the chord Super+x s to focus-slit (keyboard
into the dock apps; Tab steps, Escape returns). A Flirc or an rc-core IR
receiver appears as a keyboard, so program its buttons to these keys.
- Startup fills the
bottom slit
- The seeded startup script launches the flux dock apps into the
bottom slit at 240 px — eight tiles span a 1920 px screen exactly:
fluxCalClock, fluxWeather, two fluxLauncher instances, stalonetray (the
system tray, in dockapp mode), two fluxPics picture frames and fluxVolume
— plus the fluxData daemon the weather tile reads. Anything not
installed is skipped; fluxWebCam, fluxPlayer, fluxPowerControl and
fluxBattery are there commented out. A bottom slit costs a widescreen film
nothing in fill mode, since the picture sits in its own black bars. Edit
it like any shell script.
Every other option is as in neoflux(1); the full reference
is written to ~/.config/nfmc/defaults/config.example.toml on each
start.
- Remotes and game
pads
- A Flirc USB receiver (or an rc-core IR receiver) is a keyboard to Linux;
pair its buttons to the keys above with nfmc-flirc-setup(1) (a
guided run of Flirc's flirc_util), which also pairs Home to ?BF1?R
and a spare button to ?BF2?R (movie mode), both bound in the seeded
keys.toml. A game pad is bridged to the same keys by nfmc-pad(1),
which the startup script runs.
Identical to neoflux(1): --replace,
--whats-new, --version, --help.
- NFMC_LOG
- Log filter (RUST_LOG syntax, e.g. debug); NEOFLUX_LOG
is honoured as a fallback.
- ~/.config/nfmc/
- config.toml, keys.toml, menu.toml, theme.toml (symlink), themes/, startup,
slitlist, and the read-only defaults/ mirror.
- ~/.local/state/nfmc/nfmc.log
