Diagnostics

Sometimes you just need a quick check.

These diagnostics are to just get a quick, informal idea of how much xyz a student might know.

High School Newcomer Math (English)

LaTeX is awesome2 at math — after all, it is based on TeX, specifically created by Knuth for formatting math. BUT, nothing else is really as good; converting math-heavy LaTeX to other formats is not pretty. So, I only have the original LaTeX files and the PDF files here.

This diagnostic is for recent arrivals who may have had some math instruction back home, but who may not have the English (or transcripts) to clearly explain how much math they've learned previously. The English and Spanish versions are the same.

These diagnostics cover addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, long division, the number line, simplifying fractions, math with fractions, factoring, basic algebra, and of course some vocabulary.
